Accounting Portal

Hub Group creates personalized, end-to-end supply chain solutions tailored to their customer’s unique business needs while cutting costs, with their consolidation programs. I helped re-design web-based tools for internal-use across all of Hub Group and partnership with the warehouses and transportation teams. This accounting tool was redesigned to fit the customer’s needs to create and edit rates for replenishment programs.

Old version

This is the old accounting portal being used.  Before starting my redesign, I did a heuristic analysis to see what improvements I could make. I also took some notes on what I found to be missing

Here were some of my findings:

  1. All fields and selections were static

  2. No way to review any saved changes

  3. Unclear organization, and hierarchy

Aside from the missing features, the design itself was a little clunky - using different fonts - there just wasn't any consistent branding for the portal. I knew this accounting UI needed a design overhaul so that users could feel reassured of the changes they were making in real time, and have transparent communication with both warehouse, transportation, and business teams across the nation.

My Approach.

Find what works - improve and optimize those things.

design what needs to be added.

As a user, I would describe the mobile and desktop versions of the accounting portal as inconsistent, with an out-dated design. Additionally, users were constantly in the dark of program statuses. These were all problems I wanted to solve moving into my redesign.

With the updates I made, users were able to create, and edit program details like scheduling rate increases in one screen.

New Version

Based on the user needs, we added the following features to the redesign:

  • statuses

  • summary of changes made

  • a way to sort data by status, starting location, or destination

The following are some attributes I made sure to communicate to the team before handoff to developers:

a. MINIMUMS

  • Rates are two decimal places.

  • User can change the current setup from Straight to Tiered or vice versa.

  • If Tiered, user can indicate multiple tiers and the corresponding amounts.

b. LANES

  • User can change the rate of an existing Lane rate.

  • Lane rates are four decimal places.

  • User can delete a lane with an existing rate.

  • User is able to add a lane. If lane is added, user is required to enter a rate.

The result was a cleaner, consistent design with helpful navigation for the user across the platform.

This design is currently in development.
